Some places don't need describing: they reveal themselves the moment you arrive.

Ca' Battista is a seventeenth-century stone hamlet, set on the ridges of the Montefeltro, where the days are measured by the light and the seasons by the colour of the hills. All around, twelve hectares of fields, woodland and truffle grounds. In front, the Apennines opening out and losing themselves in the distance.

It is made up of seven dwellings, each with its own history and its own name, brought back to life one at a time, taking nothing away from what they were.

The hamlet

The finest hour

When the sun hides behind Monte Nerone

The light settles on the stone and the wind drops. For a few minutes only the sky is left and the hills catch fire one after another until they go out together.

It is the hour when guests stop talking and it is the reason most of them come back.

The dwellings

The hamlet is divided into seven dwellings

Before they became what they are today they were a hay barn, a farmhouse, cellars and stables. The restoration respected the stone and its history. Each has its own kitchen, its own entrance and its own outdoor space to enjoy. Cars stay at the entrance to the hamlet.

Rates

Prices are per night, for the whole dwelling. High season means July and August, Italian public holidays, Christmas and New Year, and the days of the Acqualagna Truffle Fair; mid season covers all the rest of the year.

The price includes everything you could need: bed and bath linen, water, electricity, heating and gas, the final clean, Wi-Fi, the pool and parking.

Dogs are welcome: just let us know when you write to us. A supplement on the final clean may apply.

* Prices may vary according to the number of nights and the number of guests.

Book direct from this page, with no booking site in between, and you pay ten per cent less.

Long stays, from November to April

Outside the season you can take a place for long periods: a month, a winter, a season. The rate depends on the dwelling and on the time you decide to spend at Ca' Battista. Write to us and we will work it out together.

The truffle ground

Here the truffle isn't bought: it's found

Five minutes from the hamlet lies Acqualagna, world capital of the prized white truffle. But at Ca' Battista the truffle grows under our own trees, and the truffle grounds are reached on foot from the houses.

The dog is the one to watch: he sniffs, hesitates, doubles back, then stops and begins to dig. Ca' Battista is a special place because very few estates in Italy both cultivate truffles and welcome the people who come to see them come out of the ground.

The truffle grounds and what you can do

The pool

Among the truffle grounds, facing the valleys and the mountains

Set a short walk from the houses, the pool looks out over the Apennines, with nothing around to close the view. By day the water holds the light. In the evening it gives it back, reflecting the colours of the country around it.

It is reserved exclusively for those staying in the hamlet, and is open from April to November, depending on the season.

The silence

Everyone who comes to Ca' Battista finds the same thing

They find it on the very first night: a full silence, made of wind in the trees and buzzards circling high over the valley. By the second day your pace has already slowed of its own accord.

This is why the hamlet welcomes those who practise yoga or meditation, and groups who want it entirely to themselves. Dogs, too, get their space back, with twelve hectares they can move around in freely.

Around us

Urbino, the Furlo gorge, Monte Nerone, the river, the sea

Urbino and its Ducal Palace are half an hour away. The Furlo gorge, where the Roman Via Flaminia runs into the mountain, can be made out from the hills of the estate. The paths and beech woods of Monte Nerone and Monte Catria begin behind the houses, and so do the cool, restoring rivers. The sea is a little over half an hour away.

The hamlet is open from April to November and over Christmas, New Year and Epiphany. In the winter months it is let for long stays.
